Recent developments have shown that the many-body theory of localized magnetic states can lead to much greater complications than appear in the simple Hartree treatments. We discuss the question as to whether the virtual state model actually has a moment at absolute zero, reviewing the work of Suhl, Nagaoka, Abrikosov, and others. If time permits, the subject of interaction of localized moments and the relation to magnetism in metals will also be reviewed.
