Why the study?
Potential cardiovascular side effects secondary to psychotropic medications are long established and can impact tolerability and compliance if not managed in a timely manner.
Clinicians prescribing psychotropic medications must understand and manage their potential cardiovascular side effects to ensure patient tolerability and compliance.
Requires CV vigilance with psychotropics to boost compliance; leaves open optimal risk-stratification tools.
This article focuses on potential cardiovascular side effects secondary to psychotropic medications. These potential side effects are long established and, if not managed in a timely manner, can have an impact on tolerability and compliance. This article reviews the mechanism of action, assessment, diagnosis, and management of cardiovascular side effects including impact on QT interval, myocarditis, cardiomyopathies, hypertension, orthostatic hypotension, and cardiovascular accidents. Clinicians prescribing these medications should have a good understanding of underlying mechanisms and management strategies. [ Psychiatr Ann . 2021;51(7):416–420.]
