The paper discusses three critical care clinical conundrums, detailing management decisions and reviewing relevant literature.
May inform individualized decisions in select critical care cases; leaves open the need for prospective validation before wider adoption.
The practice of intensive care medicine often presents the clinician with difficult decisions or management problems. Medical literature may often provide answers or guidance but frequently some interpretation of the available evidence is required to allow the application of a realistic management plan. Three quite different clinical problems are described, followed by an account of the management decisions made in each case. Critical analysis of each case is then given accompanied by a review of the relevant literature.
