The purpose of the study is to find a simple model to serve as a tool for later studies of thermal effects, roughness effects and thermal instability problems in elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The Grubin model has the required simplicity but, unfortunately, it cannot reproduce the entry and exit conditions well enough. A modification of the theory suggested by Grubin himself considerably increases the fidelity of the solutions, particularly in the central and exit regions of the contact. The modification and the effects resulting from it, particularly with respect to thermal effects are discussed.
