Pyrolysis of 1,1‐dimethyl‐1‐silacyclobutane (DMSCB) has been studied by VLPP and by another low pressure technique. An intermediate, C3H8Si, has been directly detected in the VLPP experiments and evidence is presented that it is dimethylsilaethylene (DMSE). The heat of formation and π‐bond energy of DMSE have been calculated along with related thermochemical quantities.
