Evidence is presented for ordered molecular aggregates in the amorphous and molten states of poly(4-methylpentene-1). A model of these aggregates consists of 21–22 Å cylinders containing four parallel, closely packed helices similar to those existing in the crystalline unit cell. The interhelix packing, however, is slightly looser in the amorphous and molten states.
