All the problems inherent with any metastatic neoplastic process are compounded by the pharmacologic effects of excess serotonin production. Although a considerable amount of investigation has focused on the biochemical pathways involved in the "functioning" malignant carcinoid tumors, relatively little attention has been given to the total therapy of this disease. The infrequency of the disease, the limited experience of most physicians managing the isolated cases, and the variance of methods and parameters studied and methodology in different laboratories all...References1.
