Quadrupole moments and quadrupole polarizabilities of conjugated systems

A variational method in the usual approximations of π-electron theory for calculating components of molecular quadrupole moments and quadrupole polarizabilities is considered. Values of these quantities in the case of some alternant and non-alternant hydrocarbon and dye molecules are presented.
