The multi-layer, transfer-matrix method is used for the analysis of composite-rotor induction machines, including rotors with unlaminated steel sections. A method is given for including the variable permeability of each steel layer and an iterative computation technique is used to obtain the solution under specified operating conditions. Examples of a solid-steel rotor and a composite rotor, with steel and cage sections, are presented. The latter example is considered with special reference to its application in a fan drive.
