The very well-collimated proton beam from a Van de Graaff accelerator has been used to obtain micrographs of polycrystalline nickel foils. The graphs are obtained by registering those of the particles in the beam that are channelled nearly all the way. The micrographs carry information from the bulk about the presence of dislocations, orientation, and migration of grain boundaries.
