The results of the explantation of 21 human primary epithelial tumors of the urinary tract and one metastatic cancer of the thyroid are presented. Specific data on three lines from a tumor of the bladder (HuTu #1—“normal” fibroblast strain), from a tumor of the kidney (HuTu #IX—cells from renal adenocarcinoma) and from a cancer of the thyroid (HuTu thyroid—anaplastic strain) are described. Preliminary work on cell-to-cell reactions between host renal tumor cells in culture and autologous host cells is mentioned. The cells of HuTu #IX and HuTu thyroid have properties of epithelial cells in culture and also upon transplantation into rats. A previous report of long-term cultivation of renal cell adenocarcinoma or of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma was not encountered in a search of the literature.
