The excitation of the configurations 2p 5 3s and 2p 5 3p in neon has been calculated in the Vainshtein-Presnyakov-Sobel'man approximation (1964) and for e - , H + , H 2 + and He + impact. The results are compared with experiment and the first-order distortion calculation of Briggs and Roberts (1974). Good agreement is found with experiment.
