Born cross sections are calculated for the excitation of the 1 P 1 (2p) 5 3s level of Ne by electron and proton impact using Hartree-Fock wavefunctions and two sets of different CI wavefunctions. The optical oscillator strength obtained with the largest CI wavefunctions is 0.149.
