Derivatives of the diheteropentalene 1 were previously unknown for XYO. Thermal isomerization of the oxiranes 2 to the dioxa compounds 3 has now closed this gap. Compounds 3 show the high Diels-Alder reactivity characteristic of fused furans (RH, Si(CH3)3).
