Prior workers have analyzed the phenomenon of partial backmixing in chlorine contact chambers and have assumed complete segregation. In this paper, the unified analysis of macro‐ and micro‐ mixing in such systems is presented. Although, qualitatively, the effect of nonideal macromixing is similar to that previously reported, it is found that micromixing, particularly when high degrees of inactiv‐ation are desired, may be an important factor to consider in process design.
