An algorithm is presented to determine the GPS phase integer ambiguities, and thus positions, in a single epoch using dual frequency data. This allows instantaneous positioning such that the concepts of cycle slips and loss of lock are removed. Static trials have shown over a three hundred metre baseline, with six satellites, correct single epoch ambiguity resolution is possible for the complete observation period. For a six kilometre baseline, again with six satellites, correct single epoch ambiguity resolution has been possible for over 95% of the time. Relative precisions of 5 mm (95%) in the horizontal and 10mm (95%) in the vertical are achievable.
