Over the last 150 years significant advances in photography have been made, a process which we anticipate will continue into the 21st century. Improvements in performance and convenience have included the ever decreasing area of film format and the considerably wider negative film exposure range, progressing to higher speeds at one extreme and greater sharpness at the other. From now on, the trend is likely to show the increasing importance of electronics and its combination with chemical imaging to achieve further improvements. This marriage of two technologies should provide additional advantages combining the best features of each.
