The fine and hyperfine structure of the 1s2s2p4Postate of lithium: doubly excited states in lithium

The fine and hyperfine structure of the 1s2s2p 4 P o state of lithium has been investigated using configuration-interaction wavefunctions, with a view to understanding which configurations are important. Good agreement is obtained with experimental values. Values obtained for the fine-structure splittings are E 5 2/-E 3 2/=0.926 cm -1 ; E 5 2/-E 1 2/=-1.797 cm -1 . The question of the classification of the doubly excited 4 P o states of lithium is discussed.
