Silver island films are shown to be stable under normal laboratory conditions, and easy to use as optical sensors for the detection of traces of tetrasulphonated copper phthalocyanine. The surface‐enhanced Raman (SER) effect is used in conjunction with a resonance Raman (RR) increase in the analytical signal to levels that allow the detection of nanogram amounts. The relative intensities of characteristic group frequencies do not seem to be altered by the SER enhancement mechanism.
