The superconducting properties of powdered La2-x Sr x CuO y were investigated for various values of Sr and oxygen contents. The phase identification by an X-ray diffractometer indicates that the samples have a single-phase K2NiF4 structure. Measurements of the superconducting transition in terms of complex susceptibility χ=χ'-iχ'' have revealed that the sample with x0.16 and y4 has the highest T c. The dependence of χ on the magnetic field amplitude shows different features crossing the value of x∼0.16, suggesting that for x>0.16, no intrinsic superconducting phase appears, but a low-T c phase may exist for x<0.16.
