Uhurn observations show that 2U 0900-40 is an eclipsing binary with a period of 8.95 t 0.02 days, confirming the report by Ulmer et a'. The X-ray spectrum is flat and shows a large amount of low-energy absorption. The 2-6 keV intensity of the source is highly variable. The identification of 2U 0900-40 with HD 77581 is discussed.
