Lung macrophages are known to differ from peritoneal macrophages with regard to lysosomal enzymes, metabolic activity for energy requirement, morphology and function However, there is no conclusive evidence as to whether or not the lung macrophages belong to a separate subset from peritoneal macrophages. Comparative analysis of the cell surface markers of those macrophages may provide valuable approaches to answer this question. In the first experiment of this study, we tested the binding ability of various lectins onto macrophages from various mouse organs as one of these approaches.
