The specific heat of the CsCl-type structure equiatomic compounds TbZn and HoZn has been measured between 20 and 300 K. The lattice contribution is determined on the isomorphous compound YZn. The two alloys show in the ordering range a rotation of the moments at 63 K for TbZn and at 23 K for HoZn. The transition is a first order one. The magnetic properties are explained in terms of molecular field, and the crystalline field parameters are deduced. However, a spin wave model seems to account better for the magnetic excitations of these systems.
