There is a major movement underway in the United States and Canada to revive vegetarianism as a way of eating. It is a movement that has gone unnoticed largely because of the camouflage of a variety of religions with which it has been draped. While we have gone through periods when the meatless craze was popular among comparatively small groups of people here and there, mainly in southern California, the fad in its new form appeals to perhaps millions, and is likely to be with us for a long time since its most ardent disciples are young adults. These people seem to be making a sincere commitment to a meatless way of life, thereby creating a whole new set of dietary and medical problems. The subtleties and practicalities of this new nutritional movement are vividly described in a two-part report.
