Does dual-chamber pacing improve diastolic regurgitation and heart failure symptoms in patients with complete heart block?
Dual-chamber pacing can effectively resolve severe diastolic atrioventricular valve regurgitation and associated heart failure symptoms in patients with complete heart block.
Warrants consideration of diastolic regurgitation in HF with CHB; leaves open prevalence and management implications.
Here, we report a relatively unusual clinical presentation of complete heart block (CHB). Elderly women presented with congestive heart failure and an electrocardiogram suggestive of CHB. Further evaluation with Doppler echocardiography showed severe diastolic regurgitation across both mitral and tricuspid valves with normal ventricular systolic function. Diastolic regurgitation disappeared after dual-chamber pacing, and there was a drastic improvement in heart failure symptoms.

Panda et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Complete heart block and congestive heart failure. Dual-chamber pacing was evaluated on Diastolic regurgitation and heart failure symptoms. Dual-chamber pacing eliminated severe diastolic regurgitation and drastically improved heart failure symptoms in elderly women with complete heart block.
