Treatment of OsCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 3 with 1,3-(PPh 2 CH 2 ) 2 C 6 H 4 led to the formation of the coordinatively unsaturated complex OsCl(PPh 3 )(PCP) (PCP = 2,6-(PPh 2 CH 2 ) 2 C 6 H 3 ). Reactions of OsCl(PPh 3 )(PCP) with RC⋮CH (R = Ph, t -Bu, C(OH)Ph 2 ) gave OsCl( C CHR)(PPh 3 )(PCP). Treatment of OsCl( C CHPh)(PPh 3 )(PCP) and OsCl( C CHC(OH)Ph 2 )(PPh 3 )(PCP) with HCl produced the carbyne complexes OsCl 2 (⋮CCH 2 Ph)(PCP) and OsCl 2 (⋮CCH CPh 2 )(PCP), respectively. The solid-state structures of OsCl(PPh 3 )(PCP) and OsCl( C CHPh)(PPh 3 )(PCP) have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
