The initial stages of ordering are studied for different gold-zinc alloys with composition in the vicinity of Au4Zn by electron diffraction and high resolution electron microscopy. Special attention is paid to the elimination and formation of the two-dimensional long-period antiphase boundary structure. Dark field resolution images strongly suggest that both are associated with the withdrawing or propagation of hairpin shaped non conservative antiphase boundaries.
