The hyperfine structure constants of the 4f 12 6s 2 3 H 6 ground state of 167 Er have been found by atomic beam magnetic resonance to be A = -120.4864(5) and B = -4552.959(23) Mc/s. Direct measurement by triple magnetic resonance of the nuclear magnetic dipole moments of 167 Er, 143 Nd and 145 Nd gives values of -0 5647(24) n.m., -1.063(5) n.m., and -0 654(4) n.m. respectively. Values for < r -3 > 4f are deduced in each case and the corresponding nuclear electric quadrupole moments are 2 827(12) bn, -0 484(20) bn and -0 253(10) bn.
