Extensive series of ripple mark at various horizons have been observed in Silurian rock salt of the Salina formation. Anhydrite lamellae which show similar ripple mark have been observed in the clear salt mass. These are the first large-scale observation of ripple mark in rock salt. The only other published observation was made in 1908 on small ripples in a rock-salt drill core of Permian age from the Zechstein in Hesse.
