The systematic presence of a spectrum has been observed that has been termed anomalous SERS in the spectra on silver sols of a set of monocarboxylic acids, characterized by being independent of the adsorbate that is initially added and whose bands cannot be correlated with the respective Raman solution spectra. It has been confirmed that the presence of these bands depends on the length of the aliphatic chain, the pKa values and the adsorbate concentration. The different structural possibilities that could explain these results are discussed from a vibrational point of view.
