Some possible interferences of drugs or hormones administered to the pregnant mother with endocrine processes involved in fetal development are surveyed. The sites and modalities of action are multifarious: (1) effects on uterine accommodation to fetal development; (2) direct effects of hormones or drugs on fetal endocrine glands or target organs, as far as they are transferred from mother to fetus; (3) indirect effects on the fetal glands mediated by changes in the maternal environment.
