The statistical mechanics of a continuous wormlike chain is developed in analogy with the quantum mechanics of a particle in a potential field. An integral equation for the characteristic function is derived from the path integral formulation and its solution is obtained by operational and diagram techniques. It provides a useful method of calculating the moments. A modified Daniels-type expansion of the distribution function is also derived to give correctly any number of first moments.
