Relations for the coupling between the various partialwave amplitudes are derived, and the pairing of Regge trajectories through the action of exchange forces is considered. The effect of P/sub 33/ exchange on F states is examined, and quantum number assignments for maxima in pi /sup -/-p and pi /sup +/-p interactions are suggested on the basis of exchange considerations.
