The effect of polarization electric field on homogeneous-twist transitions in surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal sample is studied on the basis of the continuum theory. From numerically calculated phase diagrams for an applied DC electric field and the anchoring strength at the boundaries, one may find that twist structure becomes unstable by the polarization electric field due to the spatially distributing polarization charge accompanied with that structure. Consequently, a homogeneous uniform state is found to be more stable rather than a twist state. Some experiments are suggested to clarify the effect of polarization electric field, and the present results are compared with those previously obtained by Pavel.
