The current study aimed to evaluate for the first time the essential oil composition of Hedysarum pallidum. The GC-MS technique was used to assess the volatile content, and the antioxidant assessment of H. pallidum extracts was performed using DPPH method. The findings showed that limonene (25.02%), methylcyclohexane (23.73%), p-cymene (13.20%), (E)-2-hexenal (7.79%), and α-pinene (5.42%) were the main components of H. pallidum oil. The H. pallidum AcOEt and n-BuOH extracts' moderate antioxidant capacities (1.24±0.03 and 2.36±0.19 mg/ml) compared to the ascorbic acid standard (0.093 ± 0.009 mg/ml) were correlated with their total phenol (68.52±1.82 and 62.37±1.38 µg GAE/mg) and flavonoid concentrations (90.71±1.34 and 89.50±2.50 µg QE/mg). This is the first report on the chemical makeup of H. pallidum oil, and the findings obtained will certainly enrich the knowledge and offer important new information on the possible medical uses of this species.
