A model to simulate completion of field operations and calculate net after-tax machinery costs was con-structed. Continuous yield loss functions and recorded suitable field day data for Iowa from 1958-1977 were used. Ten machinery sets were compared over a range of parameter values to determine the least-cost set for various conditions. Number of crop acres and labor availability had the greatest effect on the size of the least-cost machinery set. Expected gross revenue, crop mix and latitude had less effect.
