Conformationally-immobile calix[4]arenas with a cone conformation coupled to C6H4-p-CmH2m+1 (m = 3, 8, 12, 14, and 16) via an azomethine linkage were synthesized. It was found that the compounds with m ≥ 8 have the liquid crystal phase with a columnar arrangement.
