Single-institution analysis reveals higher response rates to matched therapies in early-onset colorectal cancer, suggesting enhanced sensitivity to targeted treatments.
Early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) is an increasingly prevalent disease with no age-specific therapies despite evidence suggesting biologic differences between EOCRC and average-onset CRC (AOCRC). In this single-institution analysis of patients treated on Phase I trials, we demonstrate that EOCRC patients have significantly higher response rates to molecularly matched therapies compared with AOCRC patients, while progression-free survival remains similar between groups suggesting that EOCRC may be particularly sensitive to matched treatments.
