Genotypes linked to greater weight loss in triathletes; hypothesis-generating for serotonergic and bradykinin pathways in thirst regulation, should not yet change practice.
Are polymorphisms in the ACE, BDKRB2, NOS3 and/or 5-HTT genes associated with weight changes during an Ironman Triathlon in Caucasian male triathletes?
Specific functional genotypes in the 5-HTT and BDKBR2 genes are associated with larger weight losses during ultra-endurance exercise, suggesting involvement of serotonergic and bradykinin pathways in thirst regulation.
