The time interval between two seismic periods in a given region may fluctuate wit h in very wide limits. Quite often this interval takes over 50 years and not rarely over 1 and 2 centuries or more. This implies that the measure which determines the degree of the earthquake activity in a given region can not be reliable, if it is not based on data oovering a period of at leasfr 100 years.
