A simple way to obtain an exact closed-form expression for the vertical component of the gravitational attraction of a vertical right circular cylinder is presented. The method consists of taking the Fourier—Hankel transform of Poisson's equation and looking up certain integrals and avoids tricky integrations commonly employed in obtaining such expressions.
