Abstract α- and β-Cyclodextrins were tosylated with tosyl chloride in an alkaline solution. The products were confirmed to be monotosylated compounds, and the tosyl group was introduced at the C-3 position of one glucose unit of the cyclodextrin molecule. The 1:1 complex formation of cyclodextrin with tosyl chloride was observed spectrometrically.
