Summary The flacca mutant of Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., in which stomata remain open in darkness, was used to deomonstrate an effect of light on the inward flux of NO2. This effect was not associated with a change in stomatal conductance. However, a flux was still measurable in the dark and the nature of this is discussed. The normal mechanism of ion transport in leaves is suggested as one factor in the determination of the net flux of NO2 onto this mutant tomato.
