3,4-Dihydrocoumarin, a six-membered cyclic aromatic lactone, was found to be a new monomer that undergoes imidazole-initiated copolymerization with epoxide. The copolymerization was applied to a new curing system, which showed excellent performance, including high thermal stability of the cured material, improved adhesion strength in steel bonding, and reduced volume shrinkage during the curing reaction.
