The analyser brightness as a function of kinetic energy for an electrostatic photoelectron spectrometer with preretardation is determined experimentally by using only two X-ray sources (Mg K alpha and Al K alpha radiations) for excitation. The resulting function describes the change of intensity of a given photoelectron line measured at various kinetic energies.
