A Hartree - Fock approximation scheme is developed for the calculation of the efficiencies of multi-photon processes. It is applied to the calculation of the probability of two-photon radiative decay of singlet metastable helium with a resulting lifetime of 1.2 × 10-2 sec which is within a factor of 2 of the most accurate available estimate, 2 2 × 10-2 sec.
