A computer model solves the coupled, nonlinear equations describing a high pressure mercury discharge with metal halide additives. Inputs to the model include the two‐dimensional, axisymmetric geometry, the discharge fluid chemistry at the cold spot, and the total input power to the discharge. The output includes a complete two‐dimensional description of the temperature, velocity, chemistry, radiation, and electric fields. Example calculations provide an overview of a typical 400W discharge.
