A collisional-radiative model is developed to calculate the recombination and ionisation coefficients for sulphur and fluorine in order to study the kinetics of an SF 6 arc plasma at high temperature (T>6000 K). The values obtained for the recombination coefficient of sulphur exceed that of fluorine by a factor of ten. Atom-atom collisions as well as radiative absorption of resonance lines have been taken into account. Lastly ion-recombination relaxation times are compared with the relaxation times of evolution of the electron density in an extinction Sf 6 arc.
