A method for measuring the phase constant difference between the orthogonally polarized modes and the coupling coefficient in a magneto-optic coupled mode waveguide is described and demonstrated. It is based on measurements of polarization of the output light of the resulting ellipse due to the waveguide dispersion without the perturbation, the external magnetic field, and the variation of the mode conversion efficiency with the alternating perturbation. A reasonable Faraday rotation angle, which corresponds to the saturated coupling coefficient for a waveguide far from cutoff, has been obtained.
