Educational review demonstrates a structured cranial nerve assessment method for trainees, highlighting its potential to improve clinical reasoning and consistency.
Background Cranial nerve examination is a fundamental component of neurological assessment but is often perceived by medical trainees as complex and difficult to master. A structured and systematic approach may facilitate examination performance, interpretation of findings, and clinical reasoning. Aim This paper presents a concise and structured framework for cranial nerve examination intended primarily for medical trainees and early-career clinicians. Emphasis is placed on clarity, reproducibility, and clinical relevance across common healthcare settings. Conclusions A standardized approach to cranial nerve examination may support consistent clinical assessment and facilitate the interpretation of neurological findings. Its introduction during the early stages of medical training may improve learners’ confidence and help them develop systematic examination skills.
